Looking for a way to de-stress quick? If you are feeling stress due to chronic pain, work, children, or any life event that has you spiraling into a panic attack, try our tips to knock out that stress, fast.

Get Away From The Stress
Seems obvious but sometimes it helps to get up and take a break from whatever is causing you the stress in the first place. This will give your system a chance to breath and relax. Consider taking a quick walk around your block or building, or just stand outside to get some fresh air.

4-7-8 Exercise
Try this great way to reduce your anxiety by using the 4-7-8 exercise. According to this article, sit up straight and put the tip of your tongue behind your front teeth. Exhale through your mouth, and make a “whoosh” sound. Inhale quietly through your nose and count to 4. Hold your breath and count to 7. Exhale through the mouth, making a “whoosh” sound and count to 8. Do this for a cycle of 3 times.

Muscle Relaxation
Using a technique to help reduce muscle tension is a great way to help calm stress. Starting with one muscle area at a time, like your feet and moving up through your body, section by section. Start by tensing those muscles for a few seconds and then completely release that tension. Move up through your body and as you go you will find your body is becoming relaxed. Your mind will soon join in the relaxation. This is a technique from the 1920s developed by Edmund Jacobson and more can be found here.

Find Someone Positive To Be Around
Find a close friend or family member who you feel comfortable with. Try giving them a big hug or ask them if they have any good jokes. Let them know you are stressed and need to get your mind off of those issues. Laughter will release endorphins, helping you to feel better fast. If no one is around, consider watching a funny video, like this one.

Use Your Imagination
Think back to a time in your life where you felt relaxed, calm and happy. Possibly when you were a child or a time when you were in nature. Imagine that you are in that place with a bubble of safety around yourself, like a dome that reaches out for a mile on every side. No one can get in or cause you harm in this safe place. Take a few breaths and just imagine yourself in this happy place, totally relaxed. Muscle tension and stress will begin to dissipate and you may even find yourself in a place of peace.

Dance To Some Music
If you are at home, consider taking a moment to put on your favorite song and get into to music. It’s hard to be stressed when you are dancing to your favorite song. Even if you don’t get up and get down to the music, just listening to something that makes you happy helps to lower your blood pressure.
