Are Regenerative Medicine Treatment Options For You?

Over the years, our office has added more and more treatment options that include regenerative medicine to help heal and reduce inflammation naturally.  Some patients are still unsure of what treatment options are available, so here will be discuss the different options our office is currently offering.

Platelet Rich Plasma Injections (PRP)

This is a non-surgical treatment for anyone who is struggling with common injuries, joint pain, tendonitis, or ligament pain. This regenerative medicine accelerates your natural healing process by activating your own stem cells and platelets in an injury site. This allows your body to get back to normal without lengthy down time or painful rehabilitation after surgery. We use special equipment to draw and process your own blood, then inject the processed blood into your injury site using fluoroscopy or ultrasonic guidance. The process of platelet rich plasma takes about one to two hours and the site of injection may be painful for one to two weeks.  This treatment is great for those suffering with ligament and tendon tears, joint weakness, muscle strains or fibrosis, arthritis and tendinitis.

Intradiscal Platelet Rich Plasma Injections

Non-Surgical Orthopaedics is the one of the only practices in Georgia that is offering intradiscal PRP injections for patients suffering with low back pain that stems from the intervertebral discs.  Discogenic pain often originates from a damaged vertebral disc, sometimes resulting from degenerative disc disease.  This can occur as our bodies age naturally.  Just like in our PRP procedure, we use equipment to draw and process the blood, and then is injected directly in to the disc.

Amniotic Stem Cell Injections

Amniotic fluid is highly concentrated in stem cells, proteins, cytokins and other important compounds, which are one some of the most fundamental cells in our bodies.  Studies have shown this fluid to be naturally regenerative and can reduce inflammation and scars.  Amniotic stem cells are a very safe and effective treatment.  There is no risk of rejection in the patient.  The fluid contains the growth factors that help to stimulate tissue growth and naturally reduce inflammation.  It also contains hyaluronic acid, which acts as a lubricant and promotes cartilage growth.  This treatment is great for those suffering with Osteoarthritis, soft tissue injuries, achilies tears, tendon or ligament tears, sacroiliac pain, any joint related pain, tennis or golder’s elbow, rotator cuff injuries, hip and low back pain.

Prolotherapy

This is an age old treatment originally used by Hippocrates to help a javelin thrower’s shoulder pain.  Pain can originate from any ligament, tendon, or joint in the body, and Prolotherapy can strengthen each of these types of structures, Therefore, the probability is high that a patient with pain from the joints in the neck, mid-back, or low back will respond to treatment. Other structures that respond well include the hip, knee, ankle, toe, shoulder, elbow, wrist, finger, and thumb.  Prolotherapy injections contain relatively harmless dextrose (sugar), local anesthetic, and other agents are placed at the attachments of ligament and tendon tissue to initiate a healing response, which results in the growth (or proliferation) of fibrous tissue.  This creates a stronger bond at these attachment points, lessening the load on the individual fibers.
